Lightmeter - Operating-Test on Thinclient
Anybody who doesn't want to use a PC with high power drain can run the lightmeter on a thinclient. I have tried using a thinclient IGEL D-200 (OS: Windows Embedded). The power consumption belonging to this type of thinclient is 13 W during operation with switched off monitor. (2 W im Sleepmodus). This is far beyond power consumption of notebooks and no compare to PCs. The big advantage of thinclients is, that no harddisks are used and instead of it CF-cards are doing their job. Using the integrated USB-connector more diskspace using USB-Sticks is possible.
Here you can see a size comparison between ligtmeter and thinclient.
4 USB - connectors are on board. Enough to connect Sticks or extern HrdDisks, mouse, keyboard und the lightmeter. The thinclient has 12 V input und can connect directly to a Solar- or Carbattery.
To install the software you can use a USB-Stick where the software is stored and you need admin-rights. There is a special feature using XP-Embedded, the so called "File-Based Write Filter". You have to deactivate it for enabling installing software permanent and to enable writing access for parts of the CF-card. Therefore the Toggle-Off Modus of the FBWF has to be deactivated and after installation again activated.
Installing drivers is analogue to any PC-installations ......
... the lightmeter software is running perfect with Windows XP-Embedded......
.... and the sensor is producing datas as is usual.
